Sustainable Serang Monastery Trek

10 days guided trek
A tourist offers prayers to the shrine at Serang Monastery

Overview

The Serang Monastery has historically been an isolated sanctuary for Buddhist study and retreat with links to Tibet that traverse the centuries. Traditionally, this sacred site has prohibited all foreign and non-monastic related visitation. Within the last decade, Serang has allowed some visitation, however, too much visitation has become unsustainable and detrimental. Over the years visitation has increased, stressing the Monastery resources and traditional ways of life.
